46NX723 faults

Finally can make a new thread

OK so my SONY LED TV has become faulty 😞 purchased end of 2011 now its 2015 (just 2 months into 2015) so this very expensive TV only came with 12 months manufacturers warranty.

SONY want me to pay for a diagnosis & if I refuse the repair (which I will refuse because I already know from many hours of research on the net that it is indeed PANEL failure = very expensive repair/ more than the TV costs then I would be charged/ lose more money (also from reading from other owners posts on net, the parts/panel on a 4 year old TV are no longer available anyway ) this TV was still being manufactured & sold into 2012.

Expensive lesson learned... NEVER BUY SONY PRODUCTS!

Hi there

Sadly I am unable to help you, as unforuately you already know the answer. Unfortunately it is a fact of life that sometimes technology fails before it should.  When the NX range came out, many retailers were offering free 5yr warrantees on these TV's (I should know, as see below).  If you purchase from a Sony Store or John Lewis, they also include a 5 yr warrantee too.

In your case, have a read of the following links (cannot find my link for the Which? article)

http://www.whitegoodshelp.co.uk/faulty-appliances-sale-of-goods-act/

http://blogs.thisismoney.co.uk/2010/03/tv-warranty.html

Google is your friend on this one

I also bought this particular TV in Oct 2011 (just the 40" version - couldnt afford the 46").  I sadly, I sold it as I got a 2013 TV in its place.  I loved the NX range due to its monolithic design and single pane gorilla glass.  Looked great on as well as off too

Cheers

Thanks Quinnicus for your helpful replies. Ive already looked into the sales of goods etc. Unfortunately the retailer (COMET store) where the TV was purchased is no longer trading.

I also went for this particular TV because of the monolithic design.

Expensive lesson learned 😞

BTW I found a really informative & educational  document on the net

http://www.scribd.com/doc/25276757/E40951307-TCON-Troubleshooting-10-22-09-OPT#scribd

IMPORTANT NOTE: I provided a link to the document for educational purposes ONLY.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT CUSTOMERS TAKE APART THEIR TV (NO MATTER HOW DESPERATE THEYVE BECOME DUE TO THE FRUSTRATION CAUSED BY SONY/ THEIR SONY PRODUCT BECOMING FAULTY) UNLESS THEY KNOW ABOUT ELECTRONICS.

I myself am hoping that SONY contact me via email before I undertake such desperate measures.

SONY knows all about these problems yet they are not at all forthcoming.

tbh I think the hardware design (component level) of the actual panels has not improved since the problems were noticed by customers a while back.

I dont think the mods will have a problem with the link - but thats up to them

In regards to Sony contacting you, this is not the forum for direct contact.  You must contact them directly yourself.  Even though this is a Sony website, this forum is primarily run by us all - meaning the Community.

Cheers
