I have installed the Sony XSP-N1BT into my Mercedes CLK which I connect with my Sony Xperia Z2 - and there are a few areas which could really do with improvements!
AppRemote:
- Should have the ability for the user to choose their own wallpaper
- Should use the google voice recognition engine as the in-built one is useless.
- Reading a USB drive, the "Next folder" & "Next track" swipe gestures are very difficult to use while "on the move" - there is space on the screen to put the arrows, this would be easier to navigate.
- If the MP3 has the artwork already embedded, it should use this by default
- If the phone isn't docked when you start the car / turn on the unit, then it should not "wake up" the phone - as this can make the unit switch sources etc if the phone is in the user's pocket!
- When you use the EQ, it defaults to "off", regardless of where it was set before.
Main unit
- The tuner isn't very good and should be more sensitive. Things like "AF" should be defaulted to "on"
- How about using a FAKRA connector?
- A DAB tuner should have been included at this price point - or at least an input to allow future expansion
Overall, the unit has some really good ideas, but they don't seem to have been executed very well? Almost seems like there was a requirements document written, but never signed off?!
I think a good shake-down of the AppRemote application is needed, a V2.0 should be able to address most of the issues without too much effort?
I'm afraid that unless you tell me that you are working on a new version, then I will probably have to return my unit as these faults are just too annoying!! 😞
