MDR1000X -- can it use inline mic?

Hi All, I have tried to search the answer to this question but cannot find a reliable answer. Searching this forum for 1000x treats x as a separate character and provides with completely unrelated results!

The MDR1000x are wireless headphones which come with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable which can be used to use the headphones in a wired mode. As far as I can make out ( I am about to buy the headphones, so dont know for sure) this cable does not come with an inline mic.

If using the headphones for a phone call, Sony's documentation says to use this cable to listen to the callers voice but use the mic on the phone itself. This probably means the cable does not come with an inline mic.

If I use a replacement cable with an inline mic on it, will it work - will the inline mic work for making phone calls without having me speaking into the mic on the phone?

as a first preference I would like to use them in wireless mode, however I have read reviews which say that the call quality for the person on the other end is really bad. the headphones pick up the ambient noise and transmits it to the person at the other end of the call. As an alternative, I want to use wired connection for making/receiving phone calls, hence the question.

Hi there @kb1000x,

an inline mic normally passes the audio to the headphones trough normally and the microphone gets added as an extra line (that is why then the cable would have a TRRS connector on the side you plug into your smartphone).

hi Nic, thanks for replying. Sorry, I am not sure what you are saying on whether inline mic can be used or not. I can understand mic gets added as an extra line - so do the 1000x have the ability to take that extra line or not?
