IC Recorder PX-470

I have an IC Recorder-PX470. Can anyone tell me if the recorder has to be within a certain range to pick up all sounds.?

Also the manual says that there is "Application Software, Sound Organiser 2 installer file stored in the built in memory so that you can install it to your computer" I cannot find the software on the recorder. It has to be there, but where.?
