Win DVD BD will not play any DVD

Everytime i try to play a dvd or video file using win DVD i get an error message saying that windvd mfc has stopped responding. I have the latest version installed. Any help would be appreciated.

What model Vaio do you have and what version of WinDVD BD do you have installed?

What BD Drive do you have and is it running the latest firmware?

Vaio VGN-FW21L.

Running WinDVD BD 8.0.9.670 2 (The update was downloaded from vaio updates).

Sorry but how do you check the firmware version?

The drive is an Optiarc BC 5500S

Just found the Firmware version. It is 1.75. Although the sony optiarc sight says the latest release was 1.04 dated 21/10/2008.
