Sony VGN-C2Z/B - Power Issues

Replaced the existing battery on my sony laptop and now it appears not to power up. Below is a summary of what I have tried and what I am currently experencing:

1. New battery in laptop, battery LED double flashing. Will not power up, press power button green power led will flash on then off once.

2. No battery, will power up okay.

3. Existing battery, will power up, but system does not detect any battery. Batttery LED not lit.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

The battery light flashing usually indicates that the battery is not correctly fitted or compatible..

Turn off the Vaio and remove and replace the battery ensuring it's locked correctly..

If the problems remains this could indicate that the battery is not compatible.?

Is the battery Sony branded and the correct type for your Vaio.?
