Never seen inside a RX305 but here's some general tips:

Once you remove the sides, there will be usually 4 screws on the sides of teh CD drive that hold it to the metal chasis.

You need to unscrew these and then slide the drive out (after disconnecting the power and data cables of course).
Make a note of which way round cables are plugged in as you will need to connect them back the same way.

If you get stuck, ask again - I will keep an eye on this post

i can only remove one side of my rx305. are there screws on both sides of the cd-rom drive?? it looks like its enclosed in a cage or something

If it is in a cage, then you will have to search for a way of removing it.

Sorry, but I have'nt seen inside an RX305, otherwise I could tell you exactly where to look.
