my laptop often runs at a low performance, why?!

the processor is p 4 2Ghz, but it often runs at 735 mhz. I even can't not watch movie. always lag, lag.....This almost kills me. who can help me out of this? I already disabled the panel control. set 'always on' in the Power Options. but it seems useless. does reinstalling window xp help? folks, help...

This only happens when you are running on battery power. It is because a P4 uses way too much power to run at 2Ghz on batteries, so it 'underclocks' itself to run slower, and to save battery power. You cant change this I'm afraid, as otherwise your laptop batteries would drain almost instantly! My 2.8Ghz P4 underclocks to 1.4Ghz, so you arent the only one!
However, saying that, 733Mhz should be plenty to play a DVD, you should try using a different software DVD player.

thank you for the fast answer, but as matter of fact, my laptop with a plug on, so not as you said , carrying a battery. the question is still there, how to avoid the 'underclocks'? one thing is that I haven't reinstalled the windows for 1 and half year. consequently, my windows maybe become very unefficent. Could you tell me, can reinstalling windows help me out of the situation?
