Media server KDL-40W605B

I have just bought the above TV and I'm trying to get the media server function up and running.
I have an android phone and my ultimate aim is to use it as a server.
I have BubbleUpnp installed but when I open the server on the TV it shows no media to display.

Also, I have a HDD hooked up to the TV.
Is it possible to specify which folders are accessible?
And is it possible to view files from the HDD via the phone?

Hi there

Its been a while since Ive used Bubbleup. However I have just installed it to test it on my 2013 Sony TV - it worked fine straight away. If it doesnt work for you, check you TV's network setting.

I would not advise you to use your mobile as your primary device for a DLNA media server - you are in for a world of hurt and pain if you do. Look for a cheap Synology NAS server is my advice.

It is not possible to restrict which files or folders to view when directly connecting a HDD to the TV. It will display all media files - so move that porn elsewhere

As the TV is a DLNA Renderer and not a server, you will not be able to stream from a directly connected HDD on the TV to your mobile.

As I said above, a small bit of investment in a proper DLNA Server (i.e. A NAS server) or even a directly connected media player will save you a lot of hassles. Asaying of mine is - Do it once, Do it right.

Was you able to browse files on your phone, via the TV? Or just use the app on the phone to navigate and send to TV
I think I may well invest in a NAS.
My main concern is my internet will not be able to handle it well?
In have Sky BB, and hit D/L speeds of around 11-12 mbpe and uploads of 1.2mbps...not great

I didn't try the app myself, but using DLNA you'll hit the capacity only of your LAN not the internet connection (that by Italian standard is in anycase not that bad). You may have problem running HD video via WIFI but you may overcome also this problem by using a wireline connection or a powerline if you cannot run the cables from your router.
