KDL50R790B - Internet Browser

I was about to purchase the above TV but I'm not sure that I understand the workings of the Browser and would like to be sure that I know if there are any restrictions to the videos that are not on You Tube.

Will I be able to use the browser to get to sites such as : http://www.cbc.ca/ http://www.globaltv.com http://www.ctv.ca  ; and http://www.primewire.ag/    and watch the TV and Movie Episodes?

Hi there

The internet browser is not designed for graphics intense website or streaming.  I personally have found it either hit or miss.  Anything with Flash will NOT work.  Some websites have converted with HTML5 which may just work.

Wouldnt have a clue on those websites that you listed.  If its absolutely crucial, I would be looking more at some type of Media Centre PC that connects to the TV instead of relying on an inbuilt browser on a TV - after all, its a TV and not a PC.

Cheers

Thanks for your answer.  You hit the nail on the head.

I was at the dealer this morning and he brought up the Browser and we tried several sites. I must admit it was cumbersome and slow to work within the TV browser and one video worked and the other didn't.

Since there was no protection from pop ups it seemed to send us to a totally different site.  I was trying to get away with not using my laptop but I doubt that it will be possible.  I'll play around a bite more when I get the TV.  That was the biggest drawback I found to this Sony TV so I did purchase it because of the quality of the picture.

Thanks so much for the explanation. Nice to hear from someone that has personal experience with Smart TV's

Have a good day

Your welcome

I do the same by the way.  5 meter HDMI cable to my laptop (so no one trips over it!), quick, cheap and simple.  Been meaning to experiement with a Raspberry Pi to do this type of thing, but not got around to it yet.

I had never heard of Raspberry Pi outside of a slice with red filling  Sounds intriguing and I Googled it but beyond my expertise.  I'll be purchasing that HDMI cable before delivery of the TV next week for sure.

Looks like I have a huge learning curve ahead of me.

Thanks
