BBC HD Audio droput when switching from 1080p to 1080i

Hi

Just an enquiry on what the status is of the recently introduced problem on the BBC HD channel on the EX503 (and probably all 2010 Sony TV's that can receive Freeview HD). The new BBC HD codec now allows for dynamic switching between 1080p and 1080i content which causes a short dropout in the audio stream on Sony TV's. Is this problem going to be addressed by Sony/BBC with an update as it makes BBC HD fairly unwatchable with the continuous audio dropouts.

Other than this issue very happy with the TV (aprt from not being able to slect HD channel override so BBC1/ITV etc could be set to use the HD version by default).

Thanks

Chris

Things seem to have calmed down a little - not so many switches and audio glitches.

No fw update yet so have the Beeb changed something?

Spoke too soon - back with a vengeance.

No sign of an update on progress. Although to be fair the Bank Holiday may have slowed things down :smileymischief:

Hi,

Thanks to one of my kids experimenting with settings, I seem to have stumbled across a workaround that enables BBC HD to be watched without audio dropouts, pending the Sony fix. On my Bravia KDL-32EX403 (software PKG4.099EUL-0108) the dropouts go away when the Scene selection is set to Game. They come back again when Scene is set to Auto, General, Cinema, Sport or Music.

Try it and see!

Hi All

We have tested the mode changes and found it does not work on all models, we are close to a firmware update release date, please keep an eye on the sticky for more information.

Please make this update available as an OTA update, as the instructions supplied on the support pages are not easily understandable.

(File names and required data structure on the USB is totally confusing on the support pages ... needs to be clearer)

This is looking to me like it's some sort of processor loading issue - the mode switch is causing a peak in load which also disrupts the sound decoding. Maybe different models have different processing capabilities?

If this is so the firmware fix will have to find a way of managing the processor load at the switch.

Fbsales, I swear you are the biggest troll on these boards - thirty odd messages and nothing of any value contributed just moans, grumbles and negativity. I'm a little bummed its not working as it should, yeah there is a bug and Sony have been a bit slow in replying but at they are fixing it, no big deal.
