Contact phone book looks empty

Hello all,

I bought a Xperia L a couple of weeks ago. Using a couple of apps I backed up all my contacts into the SIM card and into a SD card. Using these backups I transferred all my phone book from SIM + SD cards to the new mobile phone, but when I try to find someone from my phone book it looks empty and the device asks me to transfer my contact list from any card (SIM or SD) to the mobile so I imported all that information again, but when I go to my phone book it looks empty once again.

I know all my contacts are there because when they call me I can see who is phoning, but when I try to phone someone who is not in my incoming tray already, it's impossible to find it... What's wrong with this Xperia way of managing phone books and contact lists? I've been reading a couple of topics by people having the same problem I'm experiencing and I have not seen a satisfactory solution yet.

...And I'm not giving all my contacts for Google to handle.

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

Does contacts app open up? If it does, then just tap the menu button at bottom right, and then choose Filter from the menu that pops up. If contacts app itself isn't opening up, then may be the phone needs to be repaired. Before that, try clearing data and cache stored up by the contacts app and its allied apps at Settings--Apps--All apps--Contacts--Clear data.

For PC companion on Ubuntu, there isn't an installer available at the moment, but you may try emulators. Have a look at the following threads and page:

Have you checked if you haven't disabled the following apps in Settings--Apps--All apps? 1. Contacts 2. Contacts import 3. Contacts storage.

Also check if you have any filters enabled in Contacts--menu--Filter. If so, disable them. And check if all categories are enabled under Display contacts--Phone contact, in Contacts--menu--Filter.

If all this is okay, you may try repairing the phone using PC companion.

Hello Discretion,

I just checked SETTINGS / APPS / ALL APPS / CONTACTS and CONTACTS IMPORT and I see nothing disabled. I can't find CONTACTS STORAGE.

Also, following your piece of advise, since I cannot see my contact list, I cannot see either if there is any filter on, so I guess there is none (there is nothing actually there).

PC Companion is only available for Windows, isn't? How about those of us who use Ubuntu-Linux?
