STR-DN1080 Wake on Lan (europe model)

Why is this functionality now enabled on the EU models? Network standby works but it uses over 30 watts of power while in standby and the unit stays warm to the touch the whole time. My old Yamaha amp from 6-7 years ago supported wake on lan and used virtually no power while in standby.

Hi there,

Welcome to the community.

We will look into this feature and let you know when we find out more.

Until then, maybe someone in the community will have some knowledge to share.

Best wishes,

Ed

Hi Allanp81,

I've searched everywhere for this feature. I guess you're right. However, I hope that Sony adds this feature in the future.

Cheers,

Wake On LAN should be added to EU firmware. It's available on US and APAC models and it's uses hardly any power.

Network Standby on the other hand uses over 30w, even the the product specs says it should 1.5w (recently deleted from website):

(I suspect the above power consumption specs were silently removed because they might have mistakenly put "Network Standby" on the page instead of "Remote Start" (aka Wake On LAN) - which seems to use around about the listed amount, give or take. That still leaves others with 31w - 35w power consumption in Network Standby mode.)

Exactly, it surely shouldn't use much power to just keep the LAN socket enabled to listen for a magic packet. I'm not bothered by remote start, especially as it uses way too much power while idle but wake on lan should be there to enable.

To clarify, "Remote Start" is what Sony named the 'Wake On LAN" setting and it only uses about 2w.

"Network Start" is the power hungry setting (i.e. 31w to 35w) which allows you to start the AVR via the Chromecast Audio and/or the Sony Audio Control API.

Thanks for clarifying. I just want the wake on lan option to be available on my EU model. If I'd known this before purchasing I might've given it a second thought and looked at other makes.

The lack of WOL on the EU model does seem to be an oversight. Hopefully it can be remedied.
