Scart and surround sound

I have had a Sony DAV-SC5 surround sound system (SSS for short!) for over twenty years and it works perfectly. Being a bit of a ‘techno dunce’, I bought an LG TV which doesn’t have a Scart socket as it is a flat screen TV, so managed to source a box of tricks that allows the Scart in and HDMI out to my new TV. While the sound is still excellent, the picture is too dark for me to enjoy watching anything. I have tried three different items to see if one is better than another, but no luck. I don’t want to bin my SSS as it’s so good, so does anyone know of a modern style flat screen TV that has a Scart socket, or perhaps a better way of trying to connect up? My TV doesn’t even have the three red/white/yellow slots at the back. Thank you.

If you click on the manual for 2003 you will get the earlier version of the AV and this will show the Scart connector.

Hi @Cordery, I believe the picture issue is related to the TV since this didn't happen with your previous TV. You may consider contacting LG directly. However, as an attempt, you can try to reset the device to the default settings by following the steps in page 60 and test again: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4248/42484061M.pdf

Thanks Maggie. I’m pretty sure the issue is caused by having to have a box with Scart in and HDNI out and the picture loses something in ‘translation’, so I need to follow the advice the other folk have given me which is to change the picture settings while watching a DVD and see if the TV remembers. Thank you for your reply.

It didn’t happen with the previous TV as that had a SCART connection, and the new one doesn’t.

So we might well suspect the HDMI converter as well as, or instead of, the TV.

I think resetting the DAV-SC5 unit may be a lot of work for nothing.
