Software Issues - Not fit for purpose

First and foremost, I am big Sony fan, I have purchased many of Sony products and I am normally not disappointed by most aspects of Sony products.

The Xperia 1 however is very very different. The device is simply not fit for purpose in its current state. There are several issues with the device which as a community and consumer we should expect and demand to be fixed within set timescales.

Sony is charging premium prices for a product that is littered with bugs and has no set path or communication from Sony as and when bugs will be fixed. This is simply not good enough.

My plan of action is to start logging every single performance crash, every 1st party app crash (camera, phone, sleep to wake). How many times a day a hard restart is required, how often the camera crashes.

I am hoping other members of the Sony community will do the same so we can use this thread as a measure of how bad the software really is.

If we have not received a response from Sony advising how and when the bugs will be fixed, I will start action against Sony to return the device outside of my countries return period for a full refund by Sony. I truly think that us as the community should expect to be able to return a device within a 6-month period if Sony cannot sort these issues out.

It is not an unreasonable request to expect a product which cost in some countries $1000 to outperform or at least be able to perform daily tasks equal to a $300 product without crashing.

It is simply not good enough.

USER ISSUES

Agreed, mine crashes and lags. The camera doesn't always open and shows unknown error message. Apps constantly crash. I'm very disappointed with mine.

does your problem appear when you are on safe mode ?

there are multiple instances that bugs that are reported here in the forum that has been acted before, though it may take a while since they need to decode the  software to find out the bug. just keep reporting the bugs and if enough users also have the same bug then an update would hopefully be on the way.

I thought after the software repair and updates the overheating issues were solved. I actually used the phone as a traffic monitor driving with the cam at 60fps wide angle and all was bliss for 35 minutes, that is until I switched to the 1x view and it overheated in 3 minutes.

Has it occured that some of you may have faulty phones, rather than "bugs".?

Have any of you tested in Safe Mode yet?

If it happens in Safe Mode then yes, it actually may be faulty hardware, if not then it will be the apps used, or an issue with such.

And you do also get faulty Samsungs, and other brands, not every brand is 100%.

Thank you all for your contributions and discussion!

To all those that suggest it is a hardware issue, whilst I appreciate your help I am certain it is the poorly written software at fault.

I have tried safe mode. I have tried factory resets and software recovery.

The problems are to frequent and to similar within the community to be a hardware fault. Couple that with extensive log cats I have saved as and when I could. It all points to poor software.

I have already forwarded a number of logcats to Sony support. All of which I receive an automatic acknowledgement and nothing else.

If everybody could still continue to post the issues with what model and software you are using I will keep updating the initial post.

US Version model J8170

Build Number 55.0.A.6.16

Overheats and shuts down usually in less than 5 minutes at 60FPS.

Went into safe mode and it did not overheat so I then turned off any unnecessary app notifications and uninstalled every unessential app. Rebooted out of safe mode and no overheating issues for a 10 minute 60fps recording. Need more tests but it looks promising. I may keep this phone after all.

So a big thank you to RottenFoxBreath.
