can i use normal usb type c to charge xperia 1 battery?
Yes
Done it msyself, though it may not charge as fast as the one that comes standard with the Xperia 1 (power delivery type)
Hi @guambrozio, welcome to our forum!
As @GilgameshUK mentioned, you can charge the device with a regular charger or using a USB port on a computer, but we always recommend that you only charge your device with an original Xperia charger and/or cable.
You will not get the same amazing speed when charging the device without using a charger that supports Power delivery though, but you are in no way limited to only use the included charger.
I hope that helps and have a nice day!
Just to reiterate further on my last explanation and Jonas's kind answer.
I use USB C and yes you use can third party chargers, however I would not recommend it, as if as if anything goes wrong then you are in trouble as Sony won't warranty any phone broken with a third party charger.
Best bet and to cover your warranty, if you have an older Xperia phone use the charger and cable from that
For example
Downstairs I have the normal. Sony charger that came with X1
Upstairs I use the charger that came withy xz3
At work. I use the charger (should I need it) the came with my xz premium.
However only The charger with power delivery, will charge your phone quickly.
I do it this way as then because I'm using SONY branded chargers and cables, then I'm covered re warranty.

@GilgameshUK, that is a very good solution and as you pointed out, it's very important to only use original charger, both for your own security and if there should be any unexpected behaviours while charging the device. Especially these days when websites that import goods from other markets has become very popular and not that much is CE marked and can't really be trusted.
I personally rather pay a little extra for a charger that I can trust rather than taking any risks and getting some questionable one just to save a few bucks.
In your case it's easy since you have other Xperia devices and can use those cables and chargers, but we sell original chargers in our webshop as well.
Thanks again for helping out and have a nice day!
They may not be approved, but if you have older Sony chargers (as I have) with USB-B cables, you can buy adapters very cheaply that convert USB-B to USB-C. These work well in my experience.
As an aside, I get the impression - but haven't tested it - that the faster (older) Sony chargers may charge faster than a basic Sony charger - e.g. UCH12 vs UCH10 vs basic charger. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Hey bud
DRLMiles
I have used both and indered the new charger with PD recharges the phone much faster than the older ones that came with my xz3 and xzp,
In my opinion it was a good move to switch to PD.
@drlmiles, that is a really good suggestion and something that completely slipped my mind, thank you!
Regarding the chargers, do you mean charging your Xperia 1 with an UCH12 or UCH10, compared to an UCH20 is faster even though the device does not support Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0/3.0?
@GilgameshUK, it may be different in your market compared to the Nordics, but if I am not mistaken, neither of these devices came with a quick charger in the box and there is quite a big difference between a regular charger and a quick charger. In general PD charging seems to be faster than Qualcomm Quick charge 2.0 and 3.0 (we never had any devices with 4.0 so can't really say).
Regarding the change, it's kinda like going from micro USB to USB Type-C, it's just that everything else needs to catch up and hopefully in the near future more and more devices and even accessories will support PD charging. It's also very good to have a new fast charging standard that isn't restricted to a certain chipset manufacturer or a specific brand.
Have a great day!
Charging times tested - see below for conditions:
EP880 - standard charger - 7%
UCH10 - Qualcomm 2 charger - 9%
UCH12 - Qualcomm 3 charger - 10%
UCH32 - PD charger that comes with X1 - 17%

So the conclusion is that Qualcomm 2 & 3 chargers do in fact charge a bit faster than a standard charger - but far slower than a PD charger!

All chargers were Sony originals, with Sony leads. My Xperia 1 was run down each time until it shut down by itself due to low battery, then charged for 10 minutes without restarting the phone (to avoid confounding effects of running apps).
At work I use a UGreen 30W USB-C PD with a Verizon USB-C cable that is USB-IF certifed and 6ft long. I have had no problems and it charges just as fast as the OE.
