Yes, 4k video is really choppy.

I filmed my latest video using the Sony Xperia 1 in 4k and the results were disappointing, I am wondering what problems everyone else is having? https://youtu.be/_QWpHU0i92c

If I didn't know any better, I would guess you have either a lot of apps all running/syncing in the background, are using a crappy memory card(no matter what brand or if it's "good" Smiling_Face_with_open_Mouth, if you are recording onto SD.

If you are using an SD card, you really need a card that's capable of 4k recording say, in a dashcam, something with a high read/write speed.

I've tried Samsung and the high speed Sandisk, but found them poor and nowhere near what's advertised.

Best results so far are with MyMemory branded cards, advertised speeds, and no quibble lifetime warranty.

This has nothing to do with SD cards.

I've set my phone to record to internal memory and all my 4k videos are choppy, loosing frames and practically unusable. Also, no I don't have almost any apps running in the background as I use very few non stock apps and tested it as well just after factory reset without any additional apps.

This is Sony basically not caring about proper quality assurance of their products. Releasing a phone in 2019 with unusable 4k video recording? It's just pathetic and I'm not sorry for them loosing millions of $$$ on mobile division as they deserve it 100% for ignoring their consumers and releasing unfinished low quality products.

Also, no Sony is not on the case unless you can provide a proof of them:

1. Acknowledging the problem; and

2. Promising to fix it with future updates.

Can you? If not then we assume Sony doesn't care and will not fix it like with many other things they ignored over the years.

Well, I can't say I have dropped frames or choppiness on my phone, and GilgameshUK has posted some videos before and after the update, and they look ok as well..

You might have a faulty phone, or your operator software might be borked, or there may be another issue.

I would report the fault, and also report the issue to Sony Mobile Support, rather than being "not sorry" and feeling they "deserve" to lose money, that's just an immensely childish attitude to have.

Do software repair on PC and if that doesn't help return it for new one. I don't have any problems with 4K recording on my XPERIA 1 like you have.

I tested a bit.

In the cinema Pro app I can confirm this chattering. (both 2k and 4k)

4k video isn't chattering in the camera app.

Dropped frames? Didn't notice.
