Hi - I'm new here and looking for help with this fustrating problem.

I have a VGN-FS285N with Windows XP.

Up until a week ago, I was able to use my Canon camcorder using the IEEE1394 port. When plugging it in the computer/software would recognise the device and start the program automatically - so no problems.

Now when plugging in the camcorder nothing happens. The software does not start up and when I do start the software to capture the video footage I get an error message to say the device is not recognised in the port. I reinstalled the software (just in case that had a glitch) but the problem still occurs.

I have checked under device manager to see if the device is listed, but it does not appear in the list. I have also checked to see if there are any problems with the 1394 port using the troubleshooter and it says there are no errors.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this may have happened and any solutions to resolve this annoying problem?

Thanks
Helen
