Hi fjc2010,

Which processor were you thinking of fitting?

I think your Vaio is fitted with the Atom Z530 which is a 'Silverline' series processor that uses the BGA441 socket. The only upgrades using this socket would be the Z540, Z550 or Z560.

It would be questionable if an upgrade to say the Z560 would be worth it - you would get a speed increase from 1.6 GHz to 2.1 GHz but the power consumption would also increase by 25% from 2.0 to 2.5 watts with the additional heat which may cause problems.

Any other upgrade would require a chassis socket upgrade also which would be very expensive (if possible).

The P-Series Vaios are excellent pieces of kit but the size does have a few drawbacks.
