Problems with DVD/CD drive

Can anyone help as I'm getting very frustrated.

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop (VGN-AW11S) whose Blu-ray DVD/CD RW drive no longer works. The only thing I can do is read CD's, I cannot however read DVD's or write to CD's or DVD's.

I created recovery disk's and installed my system back to basics. I then completed all Sony Vaio and Windows updates, but still I have the same problem.

I did read on other site's that EPSON printers affected the registry history for this drive, I therefore have not installed my EPSON printer since the start up from the recovery disks.

I'm out of my warranty period so Sony have been an absolute nightmare when asking for advice.

Please, please can anyone help??

Hi Stephen,

As you have carried out a system recovery to factory defaults, and presumably checked whether the drive was working correctly prior to installing any updates, this would appear to be hardware related.

I suggest that you source a replacement drive.

Should have mentioned that as a last resort you could try cleaning the laser lens with a proprietary cleaner.
