Laptop Hard Reset

After trying to load AVAST onto a W7 system, my laptop has frozen and so far, I've not found a way of resetting using the 'normal' controls (e.g. power off - doesn't do anything). I suspect I will need to do a hard reset, but can't see any rest hole or facility. Can someone help?

Hi SENIOR71,

There are very few notebooks that now have a CMOS reset button. From memory the last one I had was approx. 10 years ago.

Try removing the power adaptor and battery and then hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Reattach the battery and power adaptor and try rebooting.

Many thanks for your advice - it worked & the laptop is now back in operation. I wonder why manufacturers decided to dispense with the 'easy' solution?.
