Vaio VGN TX1HP 128 GB SSD Upgrade?

Hi, I have a much loved Vaio VGN TX1HP and would like to upgrade the 60 GB HDD to a SSD but does anyone know if the TX1HP is compatible with a 128 GB version?

Your TX1HP should be OK with a SSD up to 128GB.

However, your Vaio has a minature hard drive as found in iPods. It is a 1.8 inch IDE drive and these come with several different interfaces and you will have to check carefully that you buy the right one. I think your drive has the Toshiba interface but some have a Hitachi interface and some a ZIF interface. It would be prudent to identify which drive you have at the moment to establish the correct interface. As I said, I expect you will find a Toshiba drive with a 50-pin IDE Interface.

1.8 inch IDE SSDs are available but are expensive and a 128GB 1.8" IDE drive is going to cost you around £225.

Operating Systems like Windows 7 are optimised for use with SSDs but if you are using XP, there are a few tweaks you may want to consider if you go SSD: -

Thanks for the reply.

It sounds straight forward but can offer any advice on the best way to reinstall the OS, software and files from the existing HDD? There seem to be three possibilities:-

1. Mirroring cloning existing HDD image (straight forward but what's the best software to do this);

2. Fresh install of XP, Office, etc (cleanest solution(?) but long and laborious but I've got all the original installation CDs and DVDs);

3. Create a System Recovery disk from the existing HDD and re-install from that.

Any other options?
