boot to USB memory stick

Can new VAIO laptops boot to a USB stick? I saw a question on here from many years back answered no, I wanted to see if that has changed. If so, how do you enter the BIOS on these laptops? I just bought a new Z model without an optical drive and intend to replace the HD, so wanted to reinstall Win7 from memory stick.

Hi quakerlb45 and welcome.

Yes you should be able to boot from a USB drive. Try tapping F2 during boot when you see the Vaio Splashscreen to enter the BIOS and set boot preferences.

You can create a Recovery Media set on a USB Drive if you wish to use the preinstalled operating system and preinstalled software - just follow the instructions in the Recovery Guide here: -
