Have you tried what is previously mentioned in this thread? Was there any improvement?

The reason I suggested changing the preferred network mode was simply to try and find what may be causing this. If there was an improvement by changing to GSM or WCDMA you should probably contact your service provider.

Hi,

I have this quite rare problem. Sometimes, when somebody tries to call me, the call will go directly to my voice mail without even leaving any indication of the missed call to my phone. I discussed this problem with my carrier (Elisa) and they think that the problem may be that when I am in 4G network, the phone can't switch to H+/3G/2G fast enough to handle the icoming call and that's why it will go straight to voicemail.

After that to phone goes in a sort of limbo and all incoming calls are going straight to VM. Restarting the phone remedies this, so I think the problem lies within the phone, not the carrier.

This is quite a rare problem but since I use my phone a lot in my work, it occurs at least bi-monthly. Somebody sends my an email saying they couldn't reach me, even though I've been looking at my phone all the time. Really annoying.

I have a theory that if I am using 4G (surfing the web, using spotify) it triggers this bug but I've not been able to replicate it yet.

Anybody else with this problem? Is this something that could be fixed in an update?

Welcome to the forum!

Was there any change while your device was in safe mode? If not I would recommend that you first try with either making a call using another SIM-card or that you (temporarily) change the preferred network mode. To change network mode, go to Settings > More > Mobile networks > Preferred network mode > Select GSM (2G) only and restart your phone, you can also try this with WCDMA (3G) only followed by a restart.

Thanks for the tips! I have not yet had an opportunity to use safe mode for a few hours, but I'll try it later. Since the problem is so random and rare, it could take a while until I know if that worked or not.

I too have the same problem of missed calls showing & the phone NEVER rings. I get this far too often - like nearly once a day. Sony asking to change to GSM etc is not the right solution. They should fix the fault.

By downgrading from LTE, I am losing speed in my internet access to all my application.

I've experienced the same problems for a few months. I can add that when making a call it takes a long time for the phone to connect to the network and text messages typically arrive 10 min after being sent.

My phone has been set to prefer using the 4G network over 3G and GSM. I have always assumed that the phone when using that setting would automatically and continually chose the network with the best signal. This is not the case.

Today (after yet another missed call that went straight to VM) I checked the signal strength while the phone was connected to the 4G network. It was appalling ranging btw -100 and -114 dBm. When making a call the phone switched to HSDPA/3.5G and the signal strength went up to -75 dBm. After the call the signal strength dropped dramatically as the phone returned to the 4G network.

I have now switched the network setting to HSDPA/3.5G, rebooted the phone and will see what happens. Hopefully my calls will come through. But it is not a solution. I need 4G for certain services and the phone's ability to pick the best network is crucial.
