So my initial thoughts are that it was the SD card. I looked up some additional info on google and found that it is common for a card to get corrupted. (really stinks as I was in Munich, Germany and won't be able to get the pics back) So far after a re-format (formatted in windows, then put in phone and formatted again) it is fine, all pics I have taken are so far accessible through the Albums app, as well as google photos. I am a bit hesitant to make this the primary as I have already been burned, but think it really might just have been the card.

I am really getting frustrated, almost ALL the photos I take end up being corrupted and I cannot view them on anything. In essence, the camera is worthless right now. It was occasional before moving to Kitkat, but now I am losing everything.

I have a 64gb SD card that i have been using. I am going to format it and try some tests...if not I will reset the camera app to save to the internal phone. Any other suggestions? Is anyone else having this issue?

I also think it was the card and I am sorry for the photos. That is why sometimes you need to backup important things.Keep us updated and try not to store that many files on it.

So, i got the 64gb mainly for music...would you recommend saving photos to internal then just transfering to my cpu? I am new to Sony and love the experience so far, just disappointed with the pics as i have always stored on sd card by default.

No,it is fine to save them to your SD card, but backup them regularly and also check if they are not corrupted.

That is where I was confused...never had any problems till then, but took probably 50 photos, when I got home (3 hrs later) is when I realized they were corrupt. I have no problem saving internal as I don't use games or such, just want the "safest" way to take pics.

Internal memory could also help you,in that case there is no need for a fast class card to store full hd videos. But you have to consider this:if you save to internal,if there will be a problem with the phone(hopefully not) and it will not turn on,you will not be able to recover them.

I really appreciate the help. Will definitely post if any other problems...just the fact that no one else has responded, I am inclined to think that it was an isolated incedent...however since I don't use my internal drive to full, i will be safe and have my images saved there.

I also get this problem. Sometimes I see an icon of a broken mountain and other times I can see the photo but if I try to post it to Facebook or email it, it doesn't happen. It won't even load in an image editing app even tho i can see the photo!
