Is this normal XZ3 build quality?

Image tells it all:

Light coming thru between screen and body.

Is my new phone still dust and water resistant?

Should i take it back to store?

I came to this site to seek support from Sony and first support what i found was "ask from other users" so here i am.

not sure but this looks like light is bleeding from the back of device.

I know it's hard to show, but is it possible to point where exactly light coming out?

sorry, maybe I wasn't clear.

the photo is so dark that I can't really see where light is coming out or the angle of device.

so I'd just like to see the whole device under bright light. I know we can't see the bleeding in this case but if it's taken with the same angle, I can see where the light comes from.

Is ti about the thin line of light right under screen (upper) or blurred light below?

Yes. Light comes thru between glass and aluminium body.

You'll probably find that the light isn't leaking between the glass and aluminium, but is just the edge of the curved glass.

Oled panels only put light out of the pixels, facing forward, so there isn't any light to bleed through the frame if there was a gap.

Hi @Jeremu; like @Viridis said I suppose in Oled displays there is no light under the display to come out, I think that what you are seeing and what the picture is showing is the reflection of the display edge light on the metallic frame.

There is no same kind of bleed with my S8 or S9+. Does someone else have this kind of bleed with XZ3?

Googling S7,s8,S9,note8,note9 light bleed yeilds thousands of results, all same thing in common, it's at the edge of the curved glass.

Make of that what you will but it seems to be VERY common on curved oled displays.

I have no doubts at all, that the IP rating and the unit seals are still intact, and yes, my XZ3 does have it too, it just won't ever affect me as I don't use my phone in a way it will be visible.

That is just light being refracted from the screen to the edge of the tapered glass. It's not a crack and your phone is completely fine.

Install a pressure application then press on the phone. if the pressure rises, then your phone has no problems. If you firmly press it and no increase in pressure whatsoever, then you have a gap that lets air "fly out"

Just got an XZ3. There indeed are gaps between the screen and the body, those are NOT reflections. The best way to see it is to set the brightness to max, open settings/ white background and view the phone from its sides in a DARK room. Someone needs to confirm if this compromises the waterproofing of the phone

But light doesn't emit from the rear of sides of oleds, LCDs yes, seeing light through gaps indicates light leak, oleds are forward facing light only.

Sorry, i was partly wrong. I read that the light is due to reflection and visible at extreme angles because of the gaps. Do you think this compromises the waterproofing?

It's light refracting from the edge of the glass.

No light bleed, no gaps, still water proof.
