4K video skipping

I have an xz2 for less than a month and I recently recorded some 4k videos and in almost all of them there is a moment where the recording stalls and freezes and resumes.... It comes out looking like a still image while sound is still recording and then will resume movement that matches the sound. I have tried it with and without HDR and same problem. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a problem with all phones or just the one I happened to get?

Hey there , when I record 4k ,sometimes after 30-45 seconds of recording starts to have a little lag for around 30 seconds and then normal again. Any idea why ?

I have the same problem , i tried with XC to reinstall software and the problem is still here. Maybe it is a problem with the version of the software and a new update may fix it.

@Laur_Andrei @Jsizzdo you record the video to the SD card? if yes, could you switch to internal storage and see if the same thing happens? you can change that by opening Camera app, tapping the cogwheel icon and then choosing > More > Data storage.

It is the same in any situations, even without an sdcard

Did you try if the same happens while in safe mode?

I tried it in the safe mode and it is the same. I still think it is a software problem because any other functions of the camera works flawless

It's happened to me in both 4K with and without HD. I'm in the middle of uploading the videos and will update soon... Although @Laur_Andrei did as well, and his looks like the same lag I get... Mine happens at around 1 minute for most my videos, but varies between just the one time lag, to up to 3-4 times thereafter (for a 3 min video)

So you get to see the lag randomly or everytime while recording a 4K?

Possible to share more videos??

Looking forward to the video you'll be sharing.. I better get to know the possible issues before buying this beautiful phone.

Hello,

So i have only had 3 videos of maybe 10-15 so far that i've had this phone where there is no lag.... and that is regardless of the HDR or not, or restarting or battery or anything. Also no other apps are running, etc. And those were the first 3 videos i EVER recorded... thereafter every single one has had this skip/lag.

They take a while to upload, but this is the worst one: https://youtu.be/rMuYfptndAg And the most saddening, because it's for a dance demonstration where now you can't see about 1/3 of the demonstration... =/

That's absurd.. One can see the pauses clearly in the second video as well.. I better rethink before buying this phone now, as we often shoot videos of our dance sessions through my iPhone (currently), and will be doing the same with XZ2 (if bought) as well. And if that's how the camera behaves, I just can't afford the mess.

Try using h.264 to record your videos. h.265 is just too much for xz2 to handle

Yeah. You just need to click the gear icon, bottom left while you are in video mode.

But, even if you changed that, it didnt solve the said issue.

I think the stabilization is the problemm, try to record without stabilization and tell us if you have the problem.

It´s a software problem, we hope that Sony fix in next update.
