Hi all,

I may have screwed myself over but I'm hoping there's some way to recover... Please bear with me - figured I'd tell you guys what transpired and what I've tried etc.

I've had my Xperia Z2 for about 1.5 years now and have been happy with it... To keep my phone charged I've been using the Magnetic dock which I've been told is preferable as it avoids me from opening/closing the flap that covers up the USB port (reduces chance of the water seal becoming loose over time).

A week ago, I accidentally dropped my phone on concrete, facing down, which resulted in the touch screen totally shattered and non responsive - so I took it to a phone repair shop which replaced the screen for me and everything was working fine as far as I can tell.

Yesterday, I've recently acquired a new phone case which unfortunately blocks the side magnetic port which meant I needed to charge using the usual USB port - and after some research it seems that charging the Z2 using the magnetic port for whatever reason results in some of the Z2 phones to no longer become chargable via the USB port...

After some more searching I've found a solution someone posted whereby if I supposedly switched the polarity of the magnetic port then it'll force a reboot of the phone then the USB charging method will then work.

I tried the above solution - and sure enough it rebooted my phone - but then the phone kept rebooting and rebooting... Essentially, it'd get to the screen that says: Optimizing Application X of 213 apps" and then freeze and self reboot. Sometimes it freezes and reboots after 10 apps, and other times it can get up to as much as 170 or something...

I've tried to start the phone in safe mode but it doesn't seem to work (still goes through the above optimisation process).

As of the last restart, the phone now appears to be off, but there's a permanent red light turned on at the top where the notification light normally appears where you receive a SMS or app notification etc. I can't seem to turn the phone on or interact with it in any way/shape or form. I at first thought it was maybe low on charge so I've left it charging for another 30min (using the magnetic port at first, then using the USB port) but still no luck.

I am now at a loss as to what I can do - any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome!

If the USB port doesn't work there's nothing you can do to repair the phone, like using PCC

PC Companion (PCC)

Bridge (for Mac)

Alternatives on How to backup Xperias

http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/36355

You will have to contact your Local support
