Autofocus issue

Hey!

5 days ago i bought a new Xperia M4 Aqua in a store of my country, and trying to take some photos i realize that the autofocus doesn't work really well, when i touch the screen to focus something, with de manual mode or the 'best' quality mode, it just doesn't focus, sometimes it does, and sometimes when i touch to focus it just turn even more blurred, is there any solution or tip? i tried a lot of camera, tried deleting the data from the app and nothing is working, here are some pics

Which camera settings are you using? Does your phone has a protective case or film?

I've tried a lot of configurations in the normal camera, even changing from 13Mpx to 9 or 8 Mpx and there isn't a difference, is just the autofocus that isn't working i guess. And nop, no cases or films

settings > apps > all > camera > clear data > restart the phone > check again, also make sure that the camera lens its clean and it has no scratches

are the pictures taken in low light conditions?

did you checked the lens for any grime, dirt, dust, scratches, etc?

No, in fact i have a lamp next to me. To be honest i doubt that is something with the lens, considerating that i bought the phone 5 days ago and started using it just 2 days ago, the camera lens looks good and clean, i think is just a firmware/autofocus programming or something, i've been reading in a lot of forums and it's almost 'common' in a lot of Xperia phones, but i can't find a solution yet

That's odd, you could try few things

boot in safe mode in case its a third party causing this

repair the phone with PCC

PC Companion (PCC)

Bridge (for Mac)

Now i'm preparing the update with Sony PC Companion for trying to get a solution, i'll tell u when its ready, btw thanks for the help untill now

Another question, can i upload the pictures with another link or better to wait the moderator's approbation?

There's nothing wrong with the pictures, its simply that your camera it's focusing on something else that you want to focus.

Camera > settings > Focus mode > touch focus check again

I tried that already it doesn't change even if i try 10 different configurations, i'm comparing it with my old phone, a moto g 1st gen (2013) 5Mpx camera and the autofocus is 10 times better, something is wrong

This seems to be with close objects, could you test with objects 1 meter or more away from the phone

Hi Matias,

This Auto Focus (AF) problem quite common becuase of the light conditions & distance.. I suggest it's better to use manual focus in this conditions..

Sometimes it's just a matter of focusing on something different. For example, in landscape photography (where you want everything sharp) it usually doesn't matter if you set your main focus on the horizon, or the tree you see in the distance.
Try focusing on an object within the same distance as the subject you are photographing. Then switch the lens to manual focus MF, recompose and take the shot.
An alternative to using manual focus mentioned in the solution above, is to focus on an object within the same distance then use your camera's 'focus lock' setting (check manual). Personally, I find it easier to simply switch the AF setting on the side of the lens to MF. Don't forget to change it back again for your next shot.

I hope this solution would work

There is no AF or MF setting on the side of the lens....it's a Phone, not a camera!.
My M4 Auqua also does the same thing.....
tries to focus and cannot.....
and yes, I have tried everything but regardless of what I try, it does not solve the issue.
