Z1 compact killed by magnetic charger?

HI there,

i used a magnetic charging cable (no not sony original) to charge my z1 in my car. I accidently changed

the polarity of the charger because it was night and i was in a hurry.

I started charging with 30% battery left. After i reached my destination it was almost empty and dead (not charged).

I was able to power on the phone and it had 3% akku left.

From there on i am not longer able to charge the phone.

If i'm pluggin it to the wall charger, the red LED is blinking, but the phone did not charge even over night.

I tried hard reset with the red button in the card slot and the power+volume up hard reset.

If im plugging the phone to the PC (win7), the PC plays the USB connect sound and 4 seconds later the USB disconnect sound, then again every 4 second the USB disconnect sound.

Whats your opinions? Internal charger dead by wrong magneticcharger polarity?

Or accu dead by shortcircuet of the magnetic charger? If this is the case, is there a way to change the accu?

I would say sony will not give warrenty if a wrong cable is used, but is there a way to repair it instead of buying a new?

(Killed a 350€ phone with a 5€ magneticcharger ...).

Regards

Manu

All we can advise is that you either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care to have your device inspected http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

The same has just happened to my phone today. I plugged the charger in and did hard reset (power+up) whilst charger was plugged in and it's now fixed

Hello,

I experienced the same thing. It got warm and froze but with a hard reset I was able to restart it and don't think anything is lost. It is probably a built in safety that locked it.

Here is the link where to find the hard reset button on sony xperia z1 compact.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't pressing volume up and the power button at the same time also achieve this?

i also had a problem with a magnetic charger, left it to charge overnight and found it dead, wouldnt do anything with focre shutdown or anything,i left it there for about 2 days, which made me think it fully discharged, and after that it would give me red blinks when i tried to boot it up.i left it to charge on a wall socket till i got a green led light, waited some more and then it booted up like nothing happened.

Needless to say the magnetic charger is not a decoration on a metal candle holder...

This port has a polarity protection. Upper connector is circle, lower is oval. But many third party cables ignore that making wrong polarity possible.
