Sony Vaio PCG-9Y2M won't start

Hi all, there may be a really simple answer to this but i've played around a had a look on here and can't find an answer. The notebook in question is a sony vaio PCG-9Y2M. Switched itself off last week while i was browsing the internet and will not turn back on. The light on the ac adapter still lights up when plugged in but this is the only sign of life. Does anyone have any ideas on what i can do? Cheers.

Hi JamieAFC and welcome to Club Vaio.

Unfortunately you are quoting the chassis number - I am guessing you probably have a Vaio model VGN-BX61MN and it is possibly still within warranty depending on if you bought one when it first came out or just before it was withdrawn.

Were there any warning messages when the Vaio shut down?

It may be worth borrowing another power supply - the fact that the light is on does not guarantee power at the Vaio input socket!

If there is no activity or sounds at all it does sound like you will have to contact Sony Support to see if a repair is needed.

You could try the old remedy: -

1. Remove from the AC Adapter and remove the battery
2. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds
3. Connect to AC Power and try to boot (leaving the battery out)
4. If unsuccessful, replace the battery and try again.

If all else fails, a trip to the repairers is favorite.
